At the risk of shameless self-promotion, I wanted you to know that my latest book, Utopia in Performance: Finding Hope at the Theatre, has been published by the University of Michigan Press.
Eventually, the book will be in bookstores around the country.
The book is now available from the publisher at http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDetailDesc.do?id=119520 and should also be available online from Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and other internet booksellers.
When I figure out how to add images to this blog, I'll attach the cover!
My best,

Dear Jill:
ReplyDeleteI listened to you on "Gendertalk" this past Saturday and I enjoy you thoroughly. What you said about what theater should be, I agree with you 100%. I am training to be a teacher. I also write and am trasgender male transvestite. I read your blog and I love it. If You wish to read my blog, It's www.difecta.blogspot.com
Thanks so much.
Gennee
I just purchased your book and plan to read it over the next week or so. I've always explained my interest in theatre as a performer and audience member as a passion for "theatre of big ideas"; Theatre that appeals to the best of what makes us human. I never thought of it in terms of utopia, but when I read excerpts of your book I immediately felt a sense of connection and excitement.
ReplyDeleteI'm entering grad school in the fall at UMKC in Theatre. I want to pursue studies in the some of the same areas that you address in Utopia in Performance. Thanks for your scholarship in this area. I look forward to following this blog.
To Marcus: Thanks so much for your support of my work. I hope you like the rest of the utopia book. I'm glad you're beginning graduate school in the fall; we need more people like you who are committed to the "theatre of big ideas." I'll look forward to meeting you at a conference sometime. My best, jd
