The movie is two years my senior and it captivates me for reasons identical to those you articulated so well (I study engineering and have been reduced to mathspeak and spreadsheets).

The soundtrack is fantastic - Reeves' "He'll have to go" (Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone) seems to bypasses ears and speaks directly to emotions. Although, I refuse to believe that it is just a utopian fantasy that these two women could be happy together. Surely there is more depth to relationships than the connections provided by age, profession and sex?

In any case, a love of 1950s music and perhaps naive hope means that this young old soul concurs, Desert Hearts Forever.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15793244.post-35126999085894695102009-05-20T21:21:39.857-07:002009-05-20T21:21:39.857-07:00sorry, I mean "absurd" not "abrupt".sorry, I mean "absurd" not "abrupt".yidoohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15211843767729647710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15793244.post-51962145779512777972009-05-20T21:18:22.126-07:002009-05-20T21:18:22.126-07:00I rather appreciate your insight. However with respect to the ending it bears on a little bit ambiguity if only you read Jane Rule's emotionally powerful original novel, Desert of the Heart, and her life story. Actually, Deitch's almost destructed adaption makes a fair comparison abrupt. Sure you can tell the different ambition as a young writer and young director belong to two generation of feminist prospect.yidoohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15211843767729647710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15793244.post-49714687530104336532008-01-03T16:09:00.000-08:002008-01-03T16:09:00.000-08:00I forgot to add that the love scene is available o...I forgot to add that the love scene is available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Grb5JyBepY; it's called "Anatomy of a Love Scene," and is part of the vintage edition of the DVD. The DVD itself is available from Wolfe Video (www.wolfevideo.com) and other more mainstream online outlets like B&N and Amazon.

Yours,
JillJill Dolanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09674110837402216325noreply@blogger.com
